上帝從創立世界以前,就憑著自己全然智慧和全然聖潔的旨意,自由並且不變地決定一切將發生的事:雖然如此,上帝並不是罪惡的源頭,也不強迫受造物的意志,祂沒有廢除第二原因(註:受造物)的自由和因果關係,反而加以確立。

God from all eternity did by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will freely, and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass: yet so, as thereby neither is God the author of sin nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures, nor is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established.

Q: Did God leave all mankind to perish in the estate of sin and misery?
A: God, having out of his mere good pleasure, from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life, did enter into a covenant of grace to deliver them out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a Redeemer.
